Program Overview
If you’ve ever dreamed of a career that utilizes and values your creative abilities, Atlanta Technical College’s Design and Media Production diploma program will change the way you think about work. Offering specializations in Video Production, Photography, Motion Graphics and Graphic Design, the program focuses on honing students’ raw creative energy into marketable skill sets. We use a hands on approach to learning the tools of the trade and students will be able to jump right into classes in their field from the very first semester. Throughout the course of study, students will develop portfolio pieces that they will use to seek employment upon graduation. Graduates may potentially work at in-house corporate or government marketing departments, at advertising firms, as freelancers or even on film sets.
Video Production trains students to be content creators in the age of digital filmmaking. In its first half, the program focuses on camera operation, lighting, the use of audio equipment, and basic editing. In the second half, once students have mastered the tools, the emphasis shifts to the art of storytelling in a moving visual medium. Graduates will able to produce films, music videos, web series, commercials, and any other type of video content.
Post-Production Technology prepares students for entry level positions as video and film editors, motion graphics artists or visual effects artists. Students may also basic post-audio and color grading operations. Heavy emphasis will be placed on Adobe Premiere and After Effects, with more basic introductions to Pro Tools and Davinci Resolve. Students will work to develop a portfolio of finished film work, or material that integrates 2D and 3D design elements with live footage, audio, and visual effects. Graduates will be capable of handling the basics of the entire post-production process from start to finish.
Computer Animation trains students primarily in the art form of 3D animation, whether it be for the movies or for more industrial applications. Students begin by learning the basics of 3D modeling and keyframing, then go on to explore more specialized classes such as digital lighting, effects for animation, and short film production.
Photography trains students to capture still images that may serve as commercial art. In addition to exhaustive training in camera operation, students will also focus on lighting, shooting in studio and directing models. The sequence of classes is designed to give students a taste of each major form of photography, including documentary, portraiture and shooting in controlled environments. Graduates will be capable of producing stunning photographs in a variety of scenarios.
Graphic Design prepares students for a rapidly growing industry fueled by increasing commercial activity in the digital space. Students will learn Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, and will focus on a wide variety of design projects including logos, advertisements, web graphics, flyers, brochures, business cards, book covers, posters, and much more.

Admissions Requirements- Must be 16 years of age.
- Completion of high school or GED and submission of official transcript required to apply.
- Achievement of minimum program admission scores in Reading, English, and Math.
- Transfer of previous post secondary credits will be determined by the registrar.

Course Overview
This student success course is designed to transition, connect, and acclimate new students to Atlanta Technical College. The course creates an awareness of various campus resources and holistic skill sets necessary to achieve educational and career success. Through the nurturing of academic, personal, social, occupational, and technological talents, students develop the academic and professional skills necessary to be successful in college and the global community.
Covers the basics of computer terminology, operating systems, and input and output devices, file formatting, file management, and overview of software.
An introduction to 3D Animation software and component visualization. Students will be introduced to software and basic techniques to begin creating models and material for animation projects. Students will also be introduced to basic lighting and animation concepts so that they will be able to develop a complete animation using 3D software at the end of this course.
This course covers the fundamentals of computer geometry by creating the basic elements that make computer models: surfaces, NURBS, polygon, mesh and subdivisions. Students will also be introduced to production techniques that includes preparing reference images for modeling aid, rendering and output of models.
Introduces the students to concepts for creating textures and lighting for 3D computer graphics. Students will explore in-depth the various ways to create and apply texture and lighting to the 3D models.
This course introduces fundamental rigging techniques used to prepare a modeled character for animation. The course will focus on the essential tools and techniques, used for body and facial character rigging, skinning, skin weighting, and blend shapes.
This course will focus on tying together all the various stages of production, including concept development, materials creation, rigging and animation, and post-production.
An introduction to 3D Animation software and component visualization. Students will be introduced to software and basic techniques to begin creating models and material for animation projects. Students will also be introduced to basic lighting and animation concepts so that they will be able to develop a complete animation using 3D software at the end of this course.
Provides instruction in the techniques of portrait photography. The students will be able to perform creative use of lighting, including available and studio lighting. Introduces techniques in posing portrait subjects, critical positioning of lighting, and techniques used in the field. Students develop skills for critical evaluation of a portrait photograph. Topics include: tools for indoor and outdoor photography, posing individuals and groups, manipulating natural light and flash, critique and portfolio building.
Students continue the study of Photography through technical skills and theory. Topics include exposure control, advanced lighting techniques, and portfolio building. This class emphasizes creative skills, practical exercises and photography projects.
An introduction to 3D Animation software and component visualization. Students will be introduced to software and basic techniques to begin creating models and material for animation projects. Students will also be introduced to basic lighting and animation concepts so that they will be able to develop a complete animation using 3D software at the end of this course.
This course will focus on more advanced editing and finishing techniques. Students will explore different editing styles and techniques for different genres and learn how to use these techniques to create complex compositions with polished transitions, fix screen direction errors, edit multi-camera projects, edit and mix audio, work with nested sequences, create effects, use filters creatively, color correct video, and manage clips and media.
The course will introduce students to intermediate and advanced techniques for post-production audio for film and video using specialized software such as Adobe Audition or Pro-Tools. Students will learn the concept of sound design and use techniques such as rerecording dialogue and creating Foley to enrich the sound of finished projects. Students will also learn mixing techniques to ensure that all elements are audible final projects.
The course will introduce students to color balancing and grading techniques.
The course will teach students techniques in compositing video with visual effects which includes incorporating 3D elements and pre-keyed footage, applying digital lighting and shading techniques, and applying 3rd party plugins with the goal of creating realistic-looking visual effects.
In this course students will work closely with the instructor to develop complex, portfolio quality work that reflects his or her skill set in projects in production and/or post-production. Depending on complexity, the instructor may ask students to create a single project, or multiple projects. These may include, but are not limited to, works using motion graphics, visual effects, animation, editing, color grading, or post-production audio.
