The Atlanta Technical College, through its Department of Public Safety and Security, has established a police agency whose goal is to establish a law enforcement presence at Atlanta Technical College to respond to immediate public safety issues within its physical properties and the areas within its jurisdiction. Department of Public Safety and Security is designed to increase the rapport between students, school officials, and officers and to establish the Department of Public Safety and Security as a source of information on criminal law and public safety information. The Department of Public Safety and Security is further established to provide models for students in the school, through use of certified law enforcement officers and non-sworn security professionals, whose expertise and training should foster a better understanding of legal issues and the judicial process while providing customer service to those serviced by Atlanta Technical College.
The Atlanta Technical College Department of Public Safety and Security is a certified law enforcement agency within the State of Georgia in Title 20-8-1, 20-8-2, 20-8-3 and 20-8-5. As it is recognized that this Standard Operating Procedure cannot contemplate or anticipate every circumstance in which an officer may be confronted, the manual is written as a guideline to the officer in the execution of duties and responsibilities as a law enforcement officer employed by Atlanta Technical College.
