“These award winners represent our students’ and faculty’s commitment to excellence and determination for success,” said Dr. Seals. “Our ‘Best in Class’ ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate both the deserving finalists and the collective spirit of our college, along with our aspirations for each member of the college community. I want to congratulate Loretta, Cleonna, and Marisha for their deserving honors–I know this is just the beginning of their impact on ATC and beyond.”
The following awards were given out during the ‘Best in Class’ Award Ceremony:
Ms. Loretta Grissom, Winner, GOAL Award
The Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) program focuses on excellence in technical education. During GOAL Week, outstanding students attending Georgia’s technical colleges are recognized for academic excellence and personal achievement. From this outstanding group of students, a panel of judges selects one student, the college GOAL winner, to serve as the statewide Student of the Year and ambassador for technical education in Georgia.
Ms. Cleonna Trammell, Winner, EAGLE Award
The Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) Program celebrates adult learners in pursuit of excellence. The program recognizes and honors students who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in statewide adult education classes. The concept of EAGLE is one designed to create a greater awareness of educational opportunities that are available in local communities across the state and to foster involvement in lifelong learning pursuits.
Ms. Marisha Singleton, Winner, Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction
The Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction honors the Technical College System of Georgia’s most outstanding instructors. The award is designed to recognize technical college instructors who make significant contributions to technical education through innovation and leadership in their fields. Formerly known as the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence, the award was renamed in honor and memory of Thomas “Rick” Perkins, an instructor at West Georgia Technical College, who received the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence prior to his untimely death.
