Demetrica Wright is Chosen as Atlanta Technical College’s GOAL Winner
Demetrica Wright, a marketing management student at Atlanta Technical College from College Park, Georgia, has been named as the college’s winner of the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL).
The announcement was made at the college’s annual Best-in-Class Celebration on January 29.
Wright was chosen by a panel of local leaders over three other nominees for the award. The runners-up were Diane Lewis, a hotel, restaurant, and tourism management student; Cremeithius Riggins, a paralegal studies student; and Terence Whitehead, a diesel technology student.
GOAL, a statewide program of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), honors excellence in academics and leadership among the state’s technical college students. Local GOAL winners are selected at each of the state’s 24 technical colleges as well as one Board of Regents college with a technical education division.
The announcement of Wright as the Atlanta Technical College GOAL winner was made by Dr. Alvetta Peterman Thomas, president of Atlanta Technical College.
Wright will now proceed to regional judging which will take place on April 4 at Lanier Technical College. Nine regional finalists, three finalists from the three regions, will be announced on April 23 at the Grand Hyatt in Atlanta during TCSG’s annual GOAL Week Celebration. A panel of leaders from the business, industry and government sectors will interview them and choose one to be the 2014 state GOAL winner and the recipient of the GOAL medallion.
