Press Release

Atlanta Technical College to Join the Westview Community for National Night Out

On Tuesday, August 7, Atlanta Technical College will join Mother Clyde Memorial West End Garden, the West End Neighborhood Association and nearly half-dozen community organizations for the 17th Annual National Night Out - West End Community Block Party.  The event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at 543 Hopkins St. SW
Atlanta, GA 30310.

Atlanta Technical College recruiters will be onsite to provide residents with information on educational and career opportunities at the college.  Also, the Atlanta Technical College Office of Continuing Education will conduct free health screenings. In May the college was awarded $10,000 in grant funding from the Fulton-DeKalb Hospital Authority to provide low-income and uninsured residents of Fulton and DeKalb counties with access to glucose tests, cholesterol screenings, vision exams, muscular strength and flexibility assessments, and PSA tests for prostate cancer.  The West End Community Block Party will be the third community-based event during which the college provides these services free-of-charge.

National Night Out (NNO), which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) will involve over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 36 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”

Locally, the Mother Clyde Memorial West End Garden will be hosting one of the largest NNO events in the Atlanta area. Complimentary school supplies, prizes and food will be given to attendees.  The public is encouraged to attend.

National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
