Atlanta Technical College Hosts SkillsUSA State Competition, March 16
Atlanta Technical College will host The 2012 Georgia Postsecondary Skills USA Championships on Friday, March 16. The proceedings start at 9 a.m. in Auditorium of the Academic Complex, with the day’s Occupationally Related and Skilled and Technical Sciences Contests taking place throughout the campus, until 2 p.m. Competitions will be held in areas such as Architectural Drafting, Automotive Refinishing Technology, Commercial Baking, Computer Programming, Culinary Arts, Firefighting, Extemporaneous Speaking, Plumbing, Video Product Development, Welding, Sustainability Solutions, Promotional Graphics and more.
The 2012 Georgia Postsecondary Skills USA Championships showcase the skills of Georgia’s technical college students through hands-on competitions in Leadership Development, Occupationally Related and Skilled and Technical Sciences contests. All first-place winners will represent the State of Georgia at the National SkillsUSA Championships in Kansas City, Missouri, June 23-27, 2012.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. The organization helps each student to excel. Members are enrolled in trade, technical and skills service professions, including health occupations.
SkillsUSA activities foster the development of creativity, problem-solving skills, self-esteem, and integrity. Students are introduced to the corporate quality culture, which emphasizes the dignity of work, high standards in trade ethics and workmanship, lifelong learning, and job safety. Community service, patriotism, and an understanding of the free enterprise system are also core elements of a SkillsUSA education.
On Thursday, March 15, The 2012 Georgia Postsecondary Skills USA Championships will commence at 8:00 p.m. with an opening ceremony at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel. Competitors and advisors will again gather at the hotel at noon on March 17 for the announcement of the winners.
