Veteran Education Benefits
Atlanta Technical College is approved by the Veterans Administration for the training of veterans and their dependents. Students who are eligible for education benefits through VA are encouraged to complete the process to apply for benefits.

- Submit the application for admission with $25.00 non-refundable application fee. Visit How to Apply for details.
- Submit a copy of your high school transcript/diploma/GED, as well as any college/university and military training transcripts.
AARTS: Aarts Transcripts – The AARTS transcript is available to Army, Army National Guard, and US Army Reserve veterans and soldiers with an active service date of October 1, 1981 or later.

- Complete the Placement test (if applicable). Visit Admissions Placement testing for instructions, testing exemptions, test dates and a downloadable study guide.
- Apply for Financial Aid at FAFSA.ed.gov ATC‘s FAFSA school code is 008543. You do not have to be a full time student to receive Financial Aid. (Although applying is optional, we encourage all veterans to apply for Financial Aid because VA payments may be delayed for 2 months at the start of each semester due to processing delays.)
- Visit gibill.va.gov to apply for VA education benefits.

Save and print a copy of your application for VA Benefit, and submit it to the Office of Financial Aid or e-mail the application as a document to email@example.com.
- Contact Admissions regarding registering for New Student Orientation and Advising
- Students receiving VA Benefits are required to furnish school &/or military transcript(s) of all previous education and training, and submit a ATC Transcript Evaluation Form to the Registrar Office.
- VA does not pay for repeated coursework earned at another college. However, if a student failed a class, or if the ATC program of study requires a higher grade than the one achieved in a particular class for successful completion, that class may be repeated, and certified to VA again.
- After course registration is completed, please submit the 2018-2019 Veteran’s Information form, VA Form 22-1995 (Request for Change of Program or Place of Training) or Certificate of Eligibility (COE), and/or award letter (www.vets.gov confirmation is acceptable), and your detailed course schedule to Ms. Amlett in the Financial Aid Office.
- Please complete the Veteran Information form in it’s entirely, any incomplete information may delay the enrollment certification process to the VA.
- Fax forms to 404.225.4721 or submit in-person (Dennard Building – Room 168) – Please contact Ms. Amlett if you have questions about completing the Veteran’s Information form.
- Contact your Veterans Affairs Advisor (Ms. Bernita Banks – Academic and Student Affairs) and ATC’s VA Certifying Official (Ms. Malika Amlett – Financial Aid Specialist) prior to the start of each semester to ensure appropriate course selection is in order to receive benefits. It is important to communicate all changes to your enrollment each semester, after add/drop, at all times to each ATC Official. All changes are required to be reported to the VA in a timely fashion.

What does ATC’s Certifying Official do?
- Certifies enrollment for Veterans and Dependents
- Verifies courses are required for your specific program of study
- Advises Veterans and Dependents on benefits and allowances
Please note: ATC‘s Certifying Official is employed by Atlanta Technical College, not the VA. Please contact the VA regarding when payment will be electronically transferred after your classes have been certified by the VA Certifying Official.
- Once you receive your VA Certificate of Eligibility, submit your COE to the VA Certifying Official located in the Office of Financial Aid.
- Only courses REQUIRED for your degree program or certificate will be paid for by the VA. Certification is made at the end of the Add/Drop period every semester. Meet with your Academic Advisor every semester to choose courses prior to registration. Courses not required for your program of study will not be paid for by the VA. This can affect your BAH eligibility/amount and the amount paid to Atlanta Technical College.
- We will not submit certification for classes that you have passed previously, audit classes, or classes that you have received transfer credits.
- You must inform the VA Certifying Official ASAP of any changes in your class schedule, degree program, address, phone number, and email address. Failure to do so could result in over payments by the VA for post 9/11, which will be billed to the student. This may not be reflected for a considerable time (as much as one year).
- Veterans in chapter 30, 1606 or 1607 must check in with the VA on the last day of each month to get paid. Please contact the VA at: 877.823.2378 OR gibill.va.gov/wave.
- For questions such as: ‘when will I receive my check?’ or ‘how will changing my credit load change my monthly check?’ call 888.442.4551 or va.gov.
Post 9/11 Benefit Tiers
All Post 9/11 GI Bill® benefit payments are based on the amount of creditable active-duty service each veteran has since Sept. 10, 2001. If you are an active-duty, National Guard, Selected Reserve member, or a veteran who has served on active-duty for 90 or more days since Sept. 10, 2001, the following table applies:

ATC Veterans Club
The ATC Veterans’ Club was established to provide support and a forum for those interested in veterans’ issues. Club events may include, but are not limited to, film discussions, guest speakers, community service, field trips, and social events. Membership is open to any student, staff member, or faculty member with an interest in veterans’ issues.
